FAQs – Private Investigation

Private Investigation FAQ Graphic

I saw background checks available online for $40.00 – $60.00.  Why should I hire an Private Investigative firm to do a background check if I can do it myself?

Great question.

Although we live in a digital age, there is a fair amount of manual (hand) research that goes into a professional investigative background check.  If you do an online paid background search, you still have to check that those search results are accurate, which is where the manual research part comes in. The online paid searches only utilize the same databases that you can get for free! You are better off just going to Google and researching it yourself. The problem is that general database searches and Google don’t have the ability to access Court records, criminal records, DMV history, etc. A professional investigative private investigative firm has the ability to access proprietary databases and State and municipal databases based on acceptable use standards that only are allowed to be accessed by a licensed investigative firm that has been vetted and approved to do so.

I won my court case, but the person claims they do not have the funds to pay the Court ordered judgment.  How can I find out what their assets are?

These types of investigations are just not a database search of property records and other publically available information. Besides property, a Private Investigative firm can take it much further. The firm can determine important information as the actual equity in personal properties; find bank accounts, brokerage accounts and other hidden assets, including offshore accounts.

I have already contacted the police about my case.  Can I still hire a private investigator?

Yes.

In a lot of cases private investigators will work in conjunction with the police. The Private Investigative firm can conduct their own investigation (interviews, evidence collection, etc.). Unlike the police department, private investigators are “your” own detectives who can put as much time into your cases as it requires. They are not sidetracked by a “bigger or more important” case coming in, as the police are frequently burdened with. Most private investigators also have a law enforcement background. They can investigate a case as they did when they were with the police department and comply all the evidence needed to eventually give back to the police department for their appropriate actions. They also know how to liaise with the respective law enforcement agency as not to “step on anyone’s toes.”
